High Ropes Which High Ropes course design is best for you? The highest, largest and most expensive is not necessarily the most suitable for your program objectives. What really counts, is what you want to do with it and what your overall objectives are.
At Adventure Rope we have installed hundreds of courses in 23 different countries around the world. Most are different and many are unique. What they have in common is a design that is appropriate for the intended use, taking into account all factors such as site geography, budget, planning considerations and of our aims and objectives of the program outcomes. We won't try and sell you an "off the shelf" product, because our designs are unlimited in their scope. Typical design considerations include:
- Space availability on the proposed site.
- Soil conditions and other geographic considerations.
- Staff numbers and skills available for supervision and facilitation.
- Modular design, to allow later additions of new elements.
- Restrictive Planning ordinance.
- Program objectives and target users groups.

High Ropes Courses are the ultimate Challenge for both Individuals and Teams. Using a controlled, safe environment with an element of perceived risk, our courses offer a voyage of self discovery. Our designs are diverse and unique and are designed around your specific requirements. Factors that will influence the design would typically include your program aims and objectives, target users, budget limitations, site selection and staff. In various parts of the world, planning restrictions will also play a role and our team can come up with a design to satisfy the most stringent development guidelines. High Ropes Courses can be tree or pole based. Trees have an obvious appeal, but will of course be subject to higher maintenance requirements due to tree growth, potential disease, wind damage etc.. Pole courses can be visually exciting and have the benefit that they are relatively low maintenance. Our Space Frame course can fit onto a small footprint if space is limited and they can be free-standing is space is really tight. Individual Challenge: These courses consist of a series of progressive elements designed to challenge individuals. Team Based: Elements are designed with a group dynamic in mind. The Challenges can vary with some requiring excellent communication, while other require a mental or physical team effort. Of course, the objectives can be combined and we can offer you multiple variations combining individual and team challenges within the same structure.
Belay Systems: Cows Tail Course: This Classic traditional belay system is still the first choice for experiential programs. The clip-in/clip-out system requires a level of sensible self-responsibility on the part of the participant, couple with a 'buddy' requirement from another participant or staff member. Bottom /Top belay systems - these are primarily used for the majority of team based elements. Shared belaying responsibility becomes part of the group dynamic. Continuous belay systems: These courses are most suited for users with staffing limitations or for users requiring a high participant throughput. They are particularly suitable for commercial applications. Continuous rail systems are also unsurpassed for universal access courses for disabled users, giving them a real sense of empowerment.. The continuous belay system is particularly safe and also allows rapid access in the event of any problems with participants.
